World & Biomes

The five biomes, their hazards, and what each is good for

Overview

There are five biomes in 7 Days to Die: Pine Forest, Burnt Forest, Desert, Snow, and Wasteland. The handcrafted Navezgane map includes all five; randomly generated (RWG) maps typically omit Burnt Forest.

Difficulty and loot quality scale up roughly in this order: Forest (baseline) → Desert / Snow → Wasteland (hardest, best loot).

Hazard consumables

Each advanced biome has a matching item that reduces its specific hazard — worth carrying before a long trip:

Note: These consumables reduce hazard buildup — they don't replace proper armor and weather-appropriate clothing. Use both together, especially in the Wasteland.

Where to actually live

Most players base in the Forest for easy resources and low zombie pressure, then keep a secondary horde base or loot outpost in a harder biome to take advantage of its loot bonus. Building right at a biome border (e.g. Forest/Desert) can give you access to two resource pools without much extra travel.
