Every zombie type and dangerous wildlife you'll run into
Almost any zombie on this list can spawn with one of two overlays on top of its base type — recognize these on sight (full detail in Combat):
| Type | Behavior / threat | How to handle it |
|---|---|---|
| Regular Zombie | Slow, weak, the baseline enemy you'll see everywhere | Basic melee is fine; the danger is being swarmed by several at once |
| Crawler | Always moves on the ground; easy to miss in grass, rubble, or dark rooms | Watch your footing indoors and in tall grass — it ambushes rather than approaches openly |
| Burn Victim | Common in Burnt Forest; can set you on fire on contact | Fight at range if possible rather than trading melee hits |
| Spider Zombie | Moves on all fours, has a stunning web attack, faster at night | Don't get cornered — the stun leaves you exposed to follow-up hits |
| Screamer | Spawns in response to "Heat" from base activity (crafting, forges, gunfire); screams to summon a horde | Kill it fast before reinforcements arrive; keep base noise/heat spread out to reduce how often she shows up |
| Infected Police Officer (Cop) | Large health pool, ranged acid vomit, suicide-rushes at low health | Fight at range if you can; back away once it starts its death-rush animation |
| Demolisher | Heavily armored, has C4 wired to its torso, hits hard | Shoot the explosive on its chest to end the fight fast instead of trading blows |
| Wight (Feral Wight) | Taller, faster, stronger than most zombies; always feral; can be summoned by Screamers | Treat as a mini-boss — gives the most XP and best loot of the standard roster, but fight it prepared |
| Mutated Zombie | Ranged spitter, projectiles inflict irradiated status; found in the Wasteland | Close distance quickly or fight from cover — don't stand in the open at range |
| Animal | Notes |
|---|---|
| Wolves / Dire Wolves | Often travel in packs — treat a pack encounter like a small horde, not a single fight |
| Bears / Zombie Bears | High damage per hit; zombie bears are tougher and can be summoned by Screamers late-game |
| Vultures / Zombie Vultures | Attack from above and retreat after landing a hit; can break blocks; more common in Desert and Wasteland |
| Mountain Lions | Fast, aggressive, and can catch you off guard while looting rural areas |
